These are some recent examples of our work in housing & economic development.

Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Philadelphia - Strategic Planning & Special Reports - LISC Philadelphia plays an essential role in building capacity in Philadelphia's community development sector. HWF facilitated a strategic planning process involving a Local Advisory Committee, as well as national and local LISC staff, to develop LISC's 5-year plan to ensure the effectiveness and impact of its products and services. HWF then summarized the results of this planning process into a concise Strategic Plan report.

Housing Authority of New Haven - Strategic Planning & Fund Development - HWF helped the Housing Authority develop plans for community and supportive services for public housing developments applying for federal HOPE VI funds. HWF compiled and analyzed data about residents' needs, supported a planning team, designed and authored a service provision plan, and prepared grants - the largest of which totaled $45 million (for the successful Elm Haven project). HWF has assisted the Housing Authority in securing other federal and state funds related to service provision and support for the Residence Councils.

Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF) - Community Development Finance - HWF is helping to organize and close financing for a variety of transactions that will use NFF's $50 million award of New Markets Tax Credits. NFF expects to use this round of credits to fund non-profit facilities including charter schools, day care centers, Boy's and Girl's Clubs, and others which are located in low-income neighborhoods. HWF works with NFF to evaluate deals in the pipeline, underwrite transactions for credit committee and build its internal staff capacity to manage the program.
